MAX
Sports Center has two programs that have been developed by Mike
Osler, PT, DPT, CSCS to reduce the risk of baseball-specific injuries, such
as those involving the shoulder, elbow, and back. The programs are designed for
pitchers as well as position players, and are appropriate for youth, middle-school,
and high school players as well as collegiate and elite players. Although designed
with baseball in mind, these programs are beneficial to all over-head athletes
such as those participating in volleyball, tennis, softball, swimming, and football
quarterback. |
Shoulder
Injury Prevention Program As the number
of injuries in young baseball players continues to increase, the need to prevent
them becomes even more important. The MAX Shoulder Injury Prevention Program is
a cutting edge, six-week training program designed to decrease the risk that an
athlete will be injured. The program meets three times a week and emphasizes muscular
stabilization of the rotator cuff and muscles that cross the shoulder and elbow.
Core strengthening and balance training are incorporated as these are critical
components of overhead sports. Each athlete is individually evaluated at the beginning
and end of the six weeks. Each participant is provided with a personal summary
and long term exercise recommendations at the conclusion of the program. Shoulder
Injury Prevention Screen The MAX Shoulder
Injury Prevention Screen is a one-on-one 30-minute assessment by Mike
Osler who is a licensed physical therapist and certified strength and conditioning
specialist. The screen measures strength, range of motion, shoulder function,
and includes high-speed DARTFISH motion analysis to evaluate throwing mechanics.
The goal of the screen is to increase the athlete's awareness of potential injuries
and provide strategies to reduce the risk of injuries. At the conclusion of the
screen, each athlete is provided with individual areas to focus on to maximize
performance and minimize risk of injury.
